A lazy day

June 2nd, Sunday

This morning I woke with up with a few girls and went to breakfast. The monkeys that we have been seeing are actually baboons, my mistake. They have been away for a while now but today they made an appearance. One literally was sitting right behind me and was eyeing Amy’s banana so we decided to play a little trick on him ourselves, since they have been the banana thieves. The baboon went up on the roof for a couple of minutes so Amy took her banana peel and formed it back into the shape it would have been if there were still a banana inside it and placed it at the table next to us. Next thing we know we see the little man peek his eyes down over the roof and spot the “unpeeled” banana. He jumped right down to the table, looked at us, and picked up the banana. Once he figured out it was empty he just held the peel and was looking around for it; it was hilarious. I got a perfect shot of him holding the banana peel so I will post that later on. After breakfast we walked down to the church that we went to last week. We got there a little after 8:30am and it was packed so we were kind of confused and afraid we were late. We scurried in there and found seats really fast. As we sat down we noticed that we didn’t understand the language at all and I immediately thought we missed the English service and accidently came to the Chichewa service instead. I was fully ready to embrace 2 hours of church in a different language but then everyone got up and left really fast, so we were even more confused. Luckily, we had just arrived 15 minutes early so we had nothing to be worried about. After church some of us went up to The Wall, which is a line of vendors selling all sorts of great things. I practiced bartering a lot and was surprised at how much I had improved from the last time I was there and it truly is quite exhilarating. We then walked back to Annie’s and today was just a rest day, which came at the perfect time. From the moment I woke up this morning I could feel the after effects of Mt. Mulanje. Liz hasn’t been feeling the best so we sat around all day with Amy and watched movies; it’s been so relaxing. We get to teach tomorrow and then have off until Thursday because Tuesday and Wednesday we’ll be at the Safari! SO EXCITED.

Until then,
Xoxo
